  &#8220;This award, given since 1994, recognizes the best of native artists, the way they&#8217;ve shared their art with their own communities and other communities. The honoree&#8217;s life exemplifies more than just being an artist, which is a big part of why Sam was chosen. He has used his art to communicate who he is and how he stands in the world,&#8221; said Bruce Bernstein, Executive Director of SWAIA.<br />
  An awards dinner was held June 4 in Santa Fe, NM.  Sam also will be recognized on Aug. 22, at noon, at the Santa Fe Indian Market and will also have a booth selling orginal artwork.</span></p>
