Rich Sgarlotti and Ann Dallman spoke on Feb. 1, 2012 to twenty-eight marketing students in the School of Business at Northern Michigan University. The Marketing 230 class, taught by Henry Balfanz, M.A., collaborated and offered marketing proposals for Sam English: The Life, Work and Times of An Artist. The enthusiastic students offered a wealth of ideas and rose to the challenge of a “real-life” marketing situation.

Print Solutions Magazine

awarded the PEAK (Print Excellence and Knowledge) Grand Prize Award in the Commercial Printing/Books division to Sam English: The Life, Work, and Times of An Artist In April 2010. The PEAK Awards recognize outstanding contributions in the print industry.

da Vinci Eye

Sam English: The Life, Work, and Times of An Artist is a da Vinci Eye Finalist.

As the annual judging draws to a close, a small set (24 books) of da Vinci Eye finalists is announced prior to the Eric Hoffer Award for Books. This small list or “short list” of finalists is an honored distinction of its own and is announced publicly during the spring of each award year.

Eric Hoffer Award for books presents the da Vinci Eye to the title(s) with superior cover artwork. Cover art is judged on both content and style. The da Vinci Eye is given in honor of the historic artist/scientist/inventor Leonardo da Vinci.

Honor for Sam

The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts announces that Sam English, noted Indian artist and activist, has been awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award.
“This award, given since 1994, recognizes the best of native artists, the way they’ve shared their art with their own communities and other communities. The honoree’s life exemplifies more than just being an artist, which is a big part of why Sam was chosen. He has used his art to communicate who he is and how he stands in the world,” said Bruce Bernstein, Executive Director of SWAIA.
An awards dinner was held June 4 in Santa Fe, NM. Sam also will be recognized on Aug. 22, at noon, at the Santa Fe Indian Market and will also have a booth selling orginal artwork.
